For the weekend of June 23rd … this is Paul’s official monthly Singing News Top 20 Countdown edition, based this time on the chart of favorites appearing in the magazine’s July issue. Along the way, we’ll visit with several key artists, including Bill Shivers (Brian Free & Assurance), Karen Peck (Karen Peck & New River), Mike Bowling (Bowlings), Mark Trammell (Mark Trammell Quartet), songwriter Dianne Wilkinson and more.
And, his Featured Artists are the trio known as Beyond The Ashes, with songs from their current Treasures Unseen CD. You’ll hear their current radio hit, along with the title song and more from that CD. You’ll find out why the group’s name has taken on additional (but unintended) significance in recent years. And you’ll find out why they do what they do.
The Gospel Greats web address is www.thegospelgreats.com.

As on this weekend of June 16th, Father’s Day is being observed in more than 70 countries around the world, this will be Paul’s special Salute to Fathers. Most of his music and all of the artist comments will be on this theme. Several artists will share about their fathers, their role as a father, and, of course, about our heavenly Father. Among the artists sharing their thoughts will be Gordon Mote, McCray Dove, Nick & Dave Akin, Bill Gaither, Jeff Easter, Wes Hampton, Squire Parsons, Mark Bishop and more.
On the program for the weekend of June 9th … Paul’s Featured Artists will be the venerable Chuck Wagon Gang, whose roots as a group go back more than 75 years. He’ll talk with members of today’s group about songs from their current The Best Is Yet To Be CD. They’ll share observations about why Chuck Wagon Gang music is — and always has been — very identifiable, even though this CD includes some unusual musical elements (unusual, that is, for the Chuck Wagon Gang). And, they talk briefly about the special appearances they’re making with the Blackwood Brothers and the Lefevre Quartet as the New Gospel Singing Caravan.
On the weekend of June 2nd … it’s a special edition of The Gospel Greats, as all of the songs will be favorite old hymns … sung by your favorite Southern Gospel artists. Hear thoughts about why the hymns are special and irreplaceable from such artists as Phil Collingsworth (Collingsworth Family), Tim Riley (Gold City), Jim & Melissa Brady and Michael Booth (Booth Brothers). If you grew up singing these great old hymns in church, you’ll probably know every one of them.
Paul’s Featured Artist on this program will be Guy Penrod with songs from his brand new CD called Hymns. Guy will explain why he wanted to do a hymns recording and why the grand old hymns remain so special for today’s generation. You’ll hear five songs from his CD, and Guy will tell you why he chose them — and why they’re so meaningful. Included will be a very special duet Guy did with the legendary George Beverly Shea, who’s 103 years old.
And … his Featured Artists are the Inspirations, one of Southern Gospel music’s leading quartets for almost half-a-century! He’ll visit with Jodi, Mike, David, Jon and Martin, talking about songs from their God Makes No Mistakes CD. Mike will explain why that title song has been touching so many people, as has their current chart song, Talk About Dying. Please be sure to join us for our visit with the Inspirations.
