As we are “out and about” taking care of business, both personal and Sirius XM programming matters, here’s another thoughtful, Scripture-focused message by Reverend Mark Adams, Senior Pastor of Redland Baptist Church in Rockville, Maryland:
The Boeing 747 Dreamlifter is a modified plane that can haul more cargo than any other plane in the world. It weighs about 600,000 pounds and usually requires a runway of 9,200 feet. But in November 2013, a wayward Dreamlifter missed its intended destination of McConnell Air Force Base near Wichita, Kansas. Instead, the jumbo cargo plane landed nine miles north at the wrong airport, the city-owned Jabara Airport. Jabara has no control tower and only a 6,100-foot runway.
A spokesperson at McConnell Air Force Base, the intended airport, “The tower was in contact with the pilot but the guy had no clue where he was landing.” The pilot told the McConnell radio tower, “Apparently, uh, we, uh, have landed at Beech Factory Airport” (a third airport located between McConnell and Jabara).
Eventually, it all got sorted out. The aimless pilot finally figured out which wrong airport he had landed his plane. A replacement crew came and, after removing most of the cargo, were able to take off on the shorter runway and get the plane to McConnell, the right airport.
As this pilot did, at times we all get lost in life. We try to make an important decision but discover we are at the “wrong airport.” This is why it is important for us to learn to ask God to direct our “flight paths.” He is more than qualified to do this! As Isaiah 28:29 says, “The Lord of Hosts is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance.”
The Bible defines God in terms of three “omni’s.” It states that God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. These three words mean that God is all-powerful, all-present (in other words, there is no place where God is not), and all-knowing. “All-knowing” means that God has complete knowledge. He’s not just bright or sharp. No, to say that God is omniscient is to say that God knows absolutely everything. No question can confound Him. No dilemma can confuse Him. No event can surprise Him. He has eternal, intrinsic, comprehensive, and absolutely perfect knowledge. In short, nothing is news to God. As Hebrews 4:13 puts it, “All things are naked and open to the eyes of God.”
God knows everything there is to know about you and me. There isn’t a single motivation, thought, act, or word that has slipped out of our being that has escaped the undivided attention of God. He knows which way is best for us to turn when we come to any crossroad in life, whether it concerns our career or our marriage or our children or our health. Best of all, God promises to use His unlimited knowledge to direct us. In Psalm 32:8 He says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”
