On a recent Sunday morning, while doing my chiropractor-ordained exercises before heading to church, I turned on the TV and hear a great choir sing this old hymn … and it touched my soul and lifted my spirits. Have you ever heard it, or sung it in your church?
There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King;
And Jesus, listening, can hear
The songs I cannot sing.There is springtime in my soul today,
For, when the Lord is near,
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flow’rs of grace appear.There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope and praise and love,
For blessings which He gives me now,
For joys laid up above.Oh, there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful, happy moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.
It was written way back in 1887 by a lady named Eliza Hewitt and, even though dating back that far, I did find it in a hymnbook that’s in use in many churches today.
Suffer from Insomnia?
“Don’t stay up all night counting sheep …talk to the Shepherd!”
“Prayer for a Busy Age” . . .
While this is as appropriate today as ever, it was written more than 60 years ago by Dr. Peter Marshall, who was a Presbyterian minister prior to being appointed Chaplain of the United States Senate. It certainly is a prayer that many of us could benefit from by praying and taking to heart each and every day:
In the name of Jesus Christ, who was never in a hurry, we pray, O God, that You will slow us down, for we know that we live too fast. With all of eternity before us, make us take time to live – time
to get acquainted with You, time to enjoy Your blessings and time to know each other. Amen.A-men
