Over the last many months … in fact, there have been questions for the past two years that we’ve lived on Channel 18, asking if enLighten is “here to stay” or will management seek to again delete the channel. And, if it is really going to stay in the channel lineup on a permanent basis, when will it again have its own channel, instead of being on one where the screen name in some cases still reads “Limited Engagements?”
Recently, I’ve received messages asking “when” … which I could not answer, as I didn’t know. Why didn’t the change come sooner? When you have two massive digital transmission systems that are completely different in design and involves more than 100 channels in each case, plus all the ancillary issues and systems such as the Internet services, it takes a lot of planning to insure all pieces come along for the ride when a change is made. Hence, this time of change involves several different changes … some arriving, some departing, others changing channel number like enLighten.
Now that the move has been announced, a few have asked, “why.” The simple answer is that both Sirius and XM have from the beginning found it best to group channels by category of programming. Hence, our move to Channel 65 is logical, in that we return to our original location adjacent to the other two Christian music channels.
Finally … God does work in interesting ways: While two other dates were considered for making these Sirius XM channel changes, the date eventually settled on, the day enLighten would “ascend” or move up to Channel 65, Thursday May 9th … is the 2013 Christian observance of Ascension Day, the day Jesus ascended into heaven following His resurrection!
Chapter 65 . . .
When I get a new number to think about or play with, my mind immediately wants to see if there’s a special meaning or something I should be relating it to.
So, I usually begin with the Scriptures. In the case of “65,” it’s a high enough number that the options are limited. Such as, there are only two books that go to Chapter 65 … if you include Psalm 65, a psalm of David, which reads:
Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
of your holy temple.You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks
and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.
Well, that seems to fit quite well … in that it’s all about praising and rejoicing in the Lord … which is what we’re all about here at enLighten! And, if that’s not our primary mission, we shouldn’t be on the air.
