Last week I was led to write on this subject and asked for comments and feedback. Out of all the tens of thousands of Christian folks who listen to enLighten … only two chose to write. I’m not quite sure what this means – whether it means that even thinking about this hits too close to home and “we certainly don’t want to discuss” … or, since we’ve become so inclined to ways of the world, we tend to “follow the crowd.”
Here are the two responses received, which pretty much echo what we wrote and the Scriptures teach:
I’ve noticed a lot in this day and time that very few people want to stand up and take responsibility for their actions and I think that is mostly because we’ve been taught by our politicians that nothing is your fault and that it’s either someone else’s fault or just bad luck, but either way don’t worry about it, because we’ll take care of you. Also, I don’t think Jesus would see any difference between a “white lie” and a regular lie because a sin is a sin and they all count the same in His eyes. — Gary, Enterprise, Alabama
You asked for comments on the idea of “truth” … or should it say “lack of truth.” Just as sure as Jesus requires total honesty from me, He expects me to be the same to ALL others. Black is black … not grey. White is white. Not some off shade of white. Jesus said “Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive”. I’m afraid even many Christians have fallen into the trap of “little white lies”. And God is definitely NOT PLEASED. — Freddy, Coal City, West Virginia
Please note, I am not pointing fingers … it’s not easy living by Christian principles in this world that is evermore headed in the wrong direction. Sometimes it just seems to be the safer route to do what the others do and make excuses or pass the blame onto someone else, doesn’t it?
Yet, as a Sunday School teacher friend, Al VanDevander, used to remind us … “remember, when you are pointing a finger at someone else, there’s three that are pointing back at you!”
I have to believe that every Christian truly agrees with Gary’s statement that in God’s eyes, a sin is a sin, no matter how you label it.
Final thought: the word truth appears in the Scripture more than 200 times and sin nearly half that number. From this I must conclude that the Father has strong feelings on how we, as followers of Him, should live and act!
And … I’d still love to read your comments and thoughts on this whole matter. Thank you.
