… was a gift of love – a love that
hung on a cross for our sake.
Picking up where I left off last time . . . I believe there are so many songs that talk about love because … being in the “state of love” is the most Divine state to be in and everybody wants to be there … even for just a little while. Love clears away the mundane … it electrifies the senses, it quickens the heart, spirit and mind … it takes us into a glorious realm, into a state of bliss … if only when listening to words about love. Why wouldn’t we all want to experience this state of being?
That’s what God’s love is, except the difference is –His love is not temporary. His love is unending, all encompassing, accepting, forgiving and as uncomplicated as a child crawling up on His lap and being wrapped in His loving kindness forever. That’s what we are when we love God – wrapped in His loving kindness forever.
You, dear Lord, are the gift of love that we are yearning for … the great longing in our hearts, Lord, is our longing for you, the emptiness that continues to gnaw at us is the love that only you can spiritually fill. How can so much of humanity not understand this?
One of my most favorite songs is Bette Midler’s The Rose which says … “I say love, it is a flower, and you its only seed, just remember in the Winter far beneath the bitter snows, lies the seed that with the Son’s love, in the Spring, becomes the rose.” I changed the word “Son’s,” because I think that is so apropos. What would we do without the Son’s love?????
We often hear that there are so many faces of “love,” but I think that love has only one face … it’s the beloved one of Jesus!! If we see His face in everything we do and say, all the love that comes our way, of any kind will take on a lasting brilliance that will not fade with time and circumstances.
Finally, remember to exercise your love by sharing, caring and, above all, taking time to listen to others. It could be the difference of life or death!!
