As we begin the two-thousand-and-twelfth year since the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ … I was seeking a special piece of music to play that would particularly honor Him as this new year begins here in North America. What the Holy Spirit brought to mind was this song:
HE IS JEHOVAH, GOD OF CREATION
HE IS JEHOVAH, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY
THE BALM OF GILEAD, THE ROCK OF AGES
HE IS JEHOVAH, THE GOD THAT HEALETH THEESING ALLELUIA, SING ALLELUIA
SING ALLELUIA, SING ALLELUIA
HE IS JEHOVAH, THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!
To me, that says it all.
Regarding New Year’s Eve, there are indications that more and more churches now “ring in the new year” by holding what is known as a Watch Night service … a tradition that had its origins during the United States’ Civil War in the 1860’s. I attended my first such event back in the late 1970’s while Alicia and yours truly lived in northern New Jersey. We were invited to a small church in our community, where we spent three-plus hours singing songs of praise and joy, prayed, shared our testimony if we so wished and had a fellowship meal. A wonderful experience.
However, if your plan is to spend a “quiet” evening at home listening to enLighten, my hope is that our New Year’s Gospel Jubilee brings joy to your heart as you await the departure of the old and, once again, “celebrate” the arrival of a new year … and as 2012 begins, committing yourself anew to rest in the arms of our Lord and to pray first and foremost that the world may be blessed with a new era of peace.
Yes, let us place our trust in Him who promised in Psalm 121:8 . . .
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.”
