As this “Thanksgiving” weekend is celebrated here in the United States … even at this time when there are many issues challenging our nation and the world … let us take a few moments to reflect on all that we in this land have to be thankful for. If nothing else, rejoice that we have the freedom to clasp hands around our table and say “thank you, Lord.”
In considering what would be appropriate to share at this time, I remembered this very simple praise song, “Give Thanks” . . .
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son
And now let the weak say, ‘I am strong’
Let the poor say, ‘I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us’

It was religious freedom that brought the Pilgrims to our shores nearly 400 years ago in 1620. Just one year later … after the first Summer harvest … three days were set aside for prayer and celebration . . . the very first Thanksgiving. Even without anything approaching the modern conveniences that we have … microwaves, computers, television sets or automobiles … the Pilgrims were thankful. So … all of these modern day blessings give us even more reason to be thankful. Plus, don’t forget to give thanks for the little comforts of life … like bread, laughter, sunshine and rain . . . and friends!
The Apostle Paul, writing in First Thessalonians 5:18, states … “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
To you and yours … from all of us here at enLighten and SiriusXM Radio, let us close by simply saying “Happy Thanksgiving.” Happy Thanksgiving!
“Merry Christmas” . . .
An organization called the American Family Association is promoting the wearing of this button this Christmas season. If you agree and would like to wear one … or even to order a batch to hand out at your church or to friends and family members … here’s the link for ordering!
