We may have posted this message by Reverend Mark Adams, Senior Pastor of Redland Baptist Church in Rockville, Maryland, previously … however, we can never have the assurance of His love and care implanted in our minds too often:
When the Golden Gate Bridge was being built in San Francisco in the early 1930’s, a number of workers lost their lives by falling from precariously high positions. As a result, the work proceeded slowly until someone hit on the idea of building a net under the construction area, so that when a workman fell, he would not fall to his death but would be caught by the net. 
A giant safety net was developed, at a cost of $100,000. This was the first time something like this was used at a construction site. With the security of the net below them, men were able to move about at a faster pace because they knew that if they fell, their lives would be spared. The net took away the dread of uncertainty.
As Christ-followers we may not be able to see the net below us, but it’s there. Our security comes from a loving, all-powerful God Who protects us every step of the way.
King David said, “I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 16:8) Here’s a description of the “net” that our faith in God provides:
- No matter where we go He promises to be with us. As Psalm 46:10 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an EVER-PRESENT HELP in time of trouble.”
- God promises to guide us through life’s journeys. As Psalm 23 says, “The Lord is my Shepherd…He leads me…” and Psalm 139 says, no matter where we go, “God’s hand will guide us…His right hand will hold us fast.”
- Our Heavenly Father reassures us that no matter what happens He is willing and able to work in and through those things for our benefit. As Romans 8:28 says, “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
- We know that nothing in life will keep God from loving us. Romans 8:35ff says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loves us. For I am convinced that nothing in all creation shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
- We know that even death cannot harm us. As Paul puts it in Philippians 1:21: “For me to live is Christ and do die is gain.” Quite a net, wouldn’t you agree?
