Light . . . April 5, 2014

During a recent devotional time, Alicia and I were reading a short commentary that related to “light,” which somehow brought to mind that the original logo design for this channel was printed as enLIGHTen rather than the present enLighten … as it was my desire to place greater emphasis on “Light.” After all, Jesus is the Light of the world! However, somewhere along the way a graphic artist had created the logo in the form that’s presently in use and management was hesitant to revert to our original form. Artistically, it was likely the best choice.

Speaking of “Light” . . . there’s a fair amount in the Scriptures regarding the subject. It’s first mentioned at the very beginning of the Bible, in Genesis 1:3 … “And God said, ‘Let there be light, and there was light.’”

Then, in Psalm 4:6, King David pleads: “Let the light of your face shine on us, O LORD!”

And these verses, in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 5, Verses 14 through 16, are among my personal favorites – with Jesus speaking: “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

Finally, the key to our faith is written in the Gospel of John, Chapter 8, Verse 12: “Jesus spoke to the people, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’”

We were already assembling the library and structuring the format when the name was finally chosen … which involves a number of elements including making sure that a name does not infringe on any registered trademarks. At first, I wasn’t enthralled with the name enLighten … but its meaning and value finally sunk in!

Awesome story. Always liked the name enLIGHTen. Now I like it even more. Especially like John 8:12
