In Perspective… January 22, 2013

This morning, I was asking the Lord what should be the new message for this page. Moments later, the latest edition of Paul Heil’s weekly newsletter landed in my E-mail box … and I had my answer.

The title of Paul’s Epistle is “A Morbid Anniversary” … relating to the 40th anniversary of the United States Supreme Court handing down its infamous decision in the Wade vs. Roe case.

Of course, this is not a subject of concern or interest on the part of our elected officials in the White House or Congress, as they are totally pre-occupied in “grandstanding” the issue of gun control. And, of course, this wouldn’t even be an item on anyone’s agenda here in the Nation’s Capital if it hadn’t been the deaths of 26 innocent individuals in Newtown, Connecticut, at the hands of one who was mentally ill.

I am just as saddened and distressed as most by this incident. However, as Paul notes, in the last year for which statistics are available, more than 11,000 died in gun-related killings. And, I will add that the majority of these were shootings that took place in our major cities such as Chicago and Washington, D. C.

Why is discussing gun control a small issue in the big picture? There are already 300 million guns of one sort or another in hands of individuals here in the U. S. so, even if the sale of guns was stopped completely, it would have little impact on keeping a gun out of the hands of someone who really wanted one.

But, back to Paul’s topic … 11,000 deaths is less than 1% of the number of humans who never had the opportunity to even be born because their life was snuffed out at the hand of an abortionist!

With all that said, if you haven’t already done so – I know that many of you receive and read it regularly – I urge you to read this issue of Paul’s Epistle now, then ponder and pray as the Lord leads about how you should take action.

Where are the priorities of our nation and its leaders? Certainly not where our Lord would like them to be!

On a brighter note . . .

Here’s just one photograph that was taken during this past Christmas season by Alicia’s longtime friend, John Wicoff, of the vast beauty to be found at the famed horticultural conservatory, Longwood Gardens   … located in southeastern Pennsylvania, not far from Philadelphia and Lancaster.

Oh, Lord, thank you for giving us eyes that we might see your great creation.
