“Birthday Week” – Part Two . . . July 3, 2012

Waving FlagWe here at Sirius X-M’s enLighten say … Happy Birthday, America!

During this first week in July, as we again have our picnics and watch our fireworks… let us take time to think back to when this land of the free and home of the brave was birthed two-hundred-and-thirty-six years ago … and remember the brave men who dared to declare our independence from Great Britain in that year of 1776!

And … the brave men and women who have fought many battles on many fronts and in many wars since then in order to confirm and retain our freedom. Let us always remember that there is no freedom without sacrifice!

It was 1788 before we finally elected our first president, George Washington … who served from 1789 ‘til 1797. I recently came across the prayer that General Washington prayed at the time of his inauguration in April of 1789 … one that I feel led to share with you at this time, and could be prayed by any one of us today …

Almighty GOD; we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection, that thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States of America at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of The Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech thee, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen

Let us say “thank you, Dear Lord,” fly the Stars & Stripes and celebrate all that we are privileged and blessed to have in this land!
